It’s weird how, at least in Canada today, the best sources of nuanced, independent news are the 100 or so privately funded, Canadian based “think tanks” obsessed with developing a fund raising narrative to influence and guide major party political activities.

The Mackenzie Institute is considered one of the better ones. It publishes online research papers on a wide variety of geopolitical security matters, with a focus on terrorism, political extremism, warfare, organized crime and the Ukraine.

Founded in 1984 to focus on geopolitical security matters, it’s also a registered charity with a conservative bias. In 2019, it was ranked as the 36th best think tank in Canada and Mexico by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program at the University of Pennsylvania.
